If you’re at the same age as I am, graduating or maybe just about to, chances are you’re afraid of heights. That’s a strange statement to make but, consider this: fear of heights comes in all forms, there’s the evident fear of falling down from the height, and there’s this one other fear, the fear of looking at something really high and being scared of it, being scared of its sheer presence. Philosophically speaking, you’re afraid of the goals you set for yourself, and that fear sets itself into your heart at any given age, but more so at this one, because now is the time to chase every goal you’ve ever set for yourself, the time to want a dream that’s not a distant idea anymore, it’s a daily reality, it’s a daily struggle, it’s a daily bus commute at 8 am in the morning because you don’t want to lose your job, the one you worked so hard to get so you won’t get left behind into the unemployed section of the graduating batch, its daily effort into your marriage not for the sheer pleasure of being married but instead to look the part of a happily married couple in front of your friends, it’s all the things you can’t afford but buy just because you don’t want to seem like a failure, that phrase “seem like a failure” when does someone really fail? In any given sport the result is almost always decided at the end of the game, not the first quarter or the first 10 overs, so why do we decide we’re failures so early on in life? So your life is a mixture of two fears fear of having and fear of losing, which would you rather have? The fear of having everything and being scared to lose it all, or the fear of never having anything at all. I know you’d choose the first one. But really why? Why do you work so hard to just be so afraid?

ReplyDeleteThank you so much, such words of encouragement mean the world.
DeleteNicely written.
ReplyDeleteThere is a third option
ReplyDeleteInstead of fearing to lose it all or to never have it, why can't we focus on the things that we do have and be happy about them?
Success isn't defined, at least my understanding is, by material things or ranks in the society
At the end of the day if you go to sleep with a full belly and a smile, to me, that is success
Gains and losses are a very small part of life, focus on the bigger picture
Apart from that, MA, wonderfully jotted down
Lets choose the third option then 😂
Deleteyour comment made me think about something new, i might write something regarding your POV. keep following the space.

ReplyDeleteWell said. It's just our surroundings and society which influences our thoughts and make us afraid of certain things. It's very hard to change these things because they are in our subconscious since our birth but we should always try to find the other way around.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you, but its only hard not impossible :)
